Review of Lord of the Rings series: Rings of Power (Season 2). Parts one to three

The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power began by trying to answer this question: How does everyone's need to be good open the way for evil to enter their existence?

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in the first season was a great series; Both in terms of storytelling and directing. As much as some of the storylines could have their own traction at times, a few others struggled with serious difficulty in holding the audience’s attention. At the same time, the personal taste of the directors of the episodes was so much involved in some episodes that sometimes it seemed as if the series had no clear vision or narrative language.

However, some strengths were also palpable; From the success of several actors in increasing the depth of their characters to an exciting and bloody battle that took place in several stages. From the adventurous little girl’s companionship with the mighty great wizard who had an interesting sense of humor to Galadriel’s confrontation with someone whose shocking words would silence even this fighting elf.

It passed and we reached the second season; A season that, if it cannot be at a higher level than the first season, will make many people completely disappointed with the series. For this reason, the creators must present a concentrated and integrated work here that both diminishes some of the flaws of the first season and completely reshapes the original identity of the series. In an effort to achieve the same goal, they have gone to do an important task: step by step cultivating an evil and powerful enemy that the common point of many important characters in the second era of Arda is nothing but fearing him and trying to stand against him.

The dangerous volcano of Mordor in Middle-earth – The Lord of The Rings series
Sauron’s entry into the series of rings of power was not without problems at all. There’s no denying that fan theorizing to find Sauron among the characters who had the potential to be Sauron became part of the show’s promotional engine. In the end, when we found out that Halbrand was the servant of Morgoth who will become the second dark lord of Middle-earth in the future, we felt that the series only wanted to surprise the audience and that proper characterization is not so important for this character.

The story of the rings of power is the story of Sauron gaining control of everyone, and if the viewer does not take Sauron seriously, the series will simply be razed to the ground. So the creators started the second season with full focus on Sauron.

Angry Sauron in the Lord of the Rings series
The main function of the flashback at the beginning of the second season, which shows the story of the formation of Sauron’s new form until the moment of his encounter with Galadriel, is to emphasize the extracorporeal nature of this being. Now we know that Adar was right (the sequence of turning the crown and plunging its sharp point into Sauron’s waist was charming) and we are no longer so bound by the appearance of this special and strange wizard. For Sauron, the body is like clothes; Not to define his identity. He is the cold that can shake the world and the liquid blackness that has the ability to feed on any living being. Charlotte Brandstrom’s calculated direction in the first part of the second season helps the audience to accept these points.

The fearsome Sauron we saw in the opening of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring is a far, far cry from the weary blacksmith of the first season of The Rings of Power. The second season actually starts with the claim that it wants to show the process of this halberd’s transformation into Anathar and then into the fearsome Sauron. how Focusing on Sauron’s most important trait during his rise to power during the Second Age: trickery.

Sauron Goes for Brimbor’s Head – The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2
Showing the Orcs’ hatred of Morgoth’s servant not only increases the importance of Adar’s storyline, but also justifies Sauron’s weak appearance in parts of the first season. Because we understand that he did not go to Galadriel with a specific plan, contrary to previous ideas. Rather, he had just started a new chapter of his life and was looking for a way. Everything that Sauron saw during this time, led him to draw the next plan; Not that he was carrying out the previous plan all this time. So when Season 1 ended, Sauron had a new plan in earnest to take revenge and change the land in his own evil way.

I like Elrond’s seriousness and steadfastness. The existence of such a person shows well how others listen to the temptations of Sauron and allow the Dark Lord to dominate Middle-earth.

One of the most important points in the opening minutes of the second season is that Sauron sees hope in the existence of humans and then other creatures. He understands that they continue to strive in the hope of a better future that will be free of all the ugliness of the past. He finds “hope” in different models in the existence of different characters; People who have either made mistakes or are tired of successive failures and many sufferings, hope to reach a wonderful and different future. A warrior elf named Galadriel “hopes” to finally heal the eternal wound of her brother’s death by killing Sauron and every remaining orc in the world. Seeing the rings of power, the wise Kirdan hopes that he can use them only in a good way and to save the elves. Kolehrimbor Ahangar is also hopeful that he is finally going to do his most important work. Indeed, Adar also hopes to guarantee a perfect future for his children by finalizing Sauron’s destruction.

The terrible nightmare of Galadriel in the Lord of the Rings series
Sauron only strengthens these hopes. He is busy tempting. To everyone and

Some people give what they want. For now, he just needs to do something other than tempt sometimes. For example, he kills the couriers so that he has time to deceive Kaleh Brimbur. We saw probably the best sequence in terms of showing this point about Sauron where he himself is shocked by the level of trickery of Kalebrimbor.

The bottom line here is that even good people just need a little push sometimes. They don’t want to do bad things. They might really be looking to help everyone out by making some powerful rings. In the meantime, if they are so sure of their opinions that they only consider others as a nuisance, they might lie to the king to move forward. With a piece of bone and a bit of magic, the wild and predatory beast of Adar’s prison becomes obedient to Sauron, and Kalebrimbor hopes to do something great and find the true purpose of his life.

Isildor in season two of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
The best thing that could happen to season two of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is to succeed in showing Sauron’s power to deceive everyone by making them hope for more and more. As an actor who loves Tolkien’s work, Charlie Vickers has more potential with Anathar’s appearance to properly portray this deceptive creature. If we see the process of regressing as many people as possible with Sauron’s temptations in a situation where they themselves think they are on the verge of success, maybe Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has something to say.

Because the series can emphasize that both in the first and second eras, evil did not descend on the world just because of the Dark Lord. Rather, many people closed their eyes, did not see the light, and served the darkness indirectly to achieve their desires. Perhaps this analogy is why when Halbrand is hiding from Kalebrimbore to appear before him as Anathar, a bottle of old wine from the First Age falls to the ground and breaks. This story has a long head.

Of course, the possibility of the series failing to achieve such a great success is not small at all. Because, unfortunately, some storylines still haven’t found the necessary traction.

Sauron next to Kale Brimbor, a blacksmith elf in The Rings of Power series
Fortunately, the series moves forward with more focus in the second season and has relatively reduced the number of storylines in each episode. But this does not make the weakness of the two storylines invisible; The story line of Nomenor and the story line of Kazad-Dum.

It’s not that these two storylines don’t involve important events. The problem is that their characters are often so insignificant to the audience that none of those events involve the viewer as much as they should. The dwarves’ disconnection from the stones that gave them life for so long is important to the story. But it’s not attractive for Disa to keep yelling at different Dorians. The fact that Doreen IV doesn’t do anything in particular for most of the minutes makes him no longer a proud person, but a bored person.

Doreen IV is angry – The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2
On the other hand, in Nomenor, everything continues only according to the wishes of the writers; Without the characters themselves doing anything special and creating engaging drama. what do i mean I am saying that from the beginning of the series until now, Farazon usually only listens on the chair or stands in the crowd, and then everything goes according to his wishes. Every once in a while, he appears to support Miril to make it seem like water is under the straw. But the thing is that different things always happen to him; Not by him. We understood at the very beginning that he was going to stand against Miril. Then everything turned out the way the writers wanted it to be exactly like this. The sudden enlargement of some secondary characters is usually one of the signs of the author’s hand in the story. Elendil’s daughter, whose number of minutes in the first season can probably be counted on the fingers of the hands, suddenly turns the tables here as a young supporter of Farazon.

As we saw in one of the best episodes of the first season, it seems that the only quick way to save these storylines is to tie them into the main story. If you leave the sleepers alone, they will only find different symptoms from morning to night.

Adar after trying to kill Sauron in the flashback of the second season of the Lord of the Rings series
Meanwhile, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power needs to empty its characters’ mouths of empty promises if it wants to be taken seriously. See Gil-galad and Adar. At first glance, it may seem that they have nothing in common. But both of these people made promises during the first three episodes that they did not keep.

Adar tells Halbrand I will torture you until you beg me to kill you. But Halbrand stays in prison for a short time and is released without suffering such insane suffering. Gil-galad threatens both Galadriel and Elrond with severe punishment at various times. But when the Ring of Power falls at Galadriel’s feet, there is no more punishment and he easily earns the right to wield such a powerful object. Elrond, after disobeying orders for a long time, suddenly becomes the commander of the expedition group.

Poppy and Nouri in the second season of the series Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, a product of Amazon Prime Video
Just as the work on the rings must be done step by step and with maximum precision, the series, if it wants to be more than a forgettable work, must be done carefully from here on.

go forward abundantly; to prepare everything for the display of evil’s terrifying domination of Middle-earth. From now on, even a big story mistake like a part of the story being boring can hit the showrunners hard in the long run, which will be hard to compensate for. According to Gharibeh, sometimes the heaviest burdens we carry are the things we left behind.

Currently, the series has both potential and a list of strengths. The music is still catchy and emotional, Nori Brandyfoot continues her adventure with the Stranger, and the Arundir-Theo-Isildur storyline has a chance to expand significantly. For now, I prefer the story to go further and see more parts of these two different storylines than to write about them in detail; Especially the story of Nouri, Popi and Istar, which we come to every time, the series takes on a sense of novelty.
